Emergency Flash Player update
In the “beating a dead horse” department, ER writes with this note:
Adobe has once again released a new set of Flash Player security updates, this time on Wed. October 26, 2016 in security bulletin APSB16-36:
https://helpx.adobe.com/
security/products/flash- player/apsb16-36.html Adobe security bulletin APSB16-36 also links to a future MS security bulletin that doesn’t exist yet for those using Windows 8.1 & Windows 10, maybe Thursday 10/27/2016 Microsoft may post it up, but so far the Adobe Flash Player v23.0.0.205 ActiveX security updates are not yet available for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 (all editions).
And I also found out that the Win10 Flash Player security updates [like KB3194343] only apply to specific builds of Win10. So I had to download several different versions – one will specifically work for the “1607” version, the other for “1511” and another for the RTM “1507” version; one Flash Player patch for Win10 will NOT work for multiple builds of Win10, meaning a Win10 v1607 flash player patch will only work on the v1607 release and not the v1511 & v1507 releases.
Check out this MS Update Catalog search for KB3194343:
http://www.catalog.update.
microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q= 3194343%20for%2010 That’s one of the main pains with using the Update Catalog – Windows Update handles all the version searching for you.

New Flash and Adobe Reader patches, plus a speed-up for Vista scans
Just in from EP:
Hi Woody.
New Adobe Flash Player security updates posted in security bulletin APSB16-32
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash- player/apsb16-32.html and new Adobe Acrobat & Reader security updates posted in security bulletin APSB16-33
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/acrobat/ apsb16-33.html And the only way to speed up WU scans on Windows Vista SP2 is to install the KB3191203 security update, which contains the newest win32k.sys files, a short-term solution that will work from October 11 to November 7. KB3191203 has been mentioned here: http://wu.krelay.de/en/

Adobe updates
I’m running far behind on some things.
EP sent this in last week…
Adobe has released new security updates for Flash Player, Shockwave Player and Acrobat Reader this July 2015.
Adobe Acrobat & Acrobat Reader patches posted in Adobe security bulletin APSB15-15:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/reader/ apsb15-15.html Adobe Shockwave Player update posted in Adobe security bulletin APSB15-17:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/shockwave/ apsb15-17.html Adobe Flash Player patches posted in Adobe security bulletin APSB15-18:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash- player/apsb15-18.html
(this one is the second batch of Flash Player updates this July as they supersede
the ones found in Adobe security bulletin APSB15-16)
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash- player/apsb15-16.html And I’m not upgrading to Windows 10 anytime this year as I’m uncertain of how
automatic updates will be delivered to Windows 10 users. I still like to download and install Windows Updates manually and to “pick & choose” which updates to install and which ones to skip. -
Third party updates
This in from EP:
New Adobe Flash Player 13 ESR & 17 security updates in May posted here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/reader/ apsb15-10.html Also a new IE security update KB3049563 [MS15-043] came out:
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS15-043 I’ll hold off with the Windows/IE May 2015 security updates until after Memorial Day.
But the Adobe Flash and Reader security updates in May 2015 I’ll install as soon as possible. -

The last set of third party program updates for 2014 are numerous: Adobe ColdFusion, Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash Player, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey Suite.
Full details on Randy’s site.

Another round of Flash patches
This just in from ER…
Adobe has posted a new set of Flash Player security updates mentioned in security bulletin APSB14-26:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-26.html
This feels like a re-release of the November 2014 Flash Player security updates first mentioned in security bulletin APSB14-24:
https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-24.html
The ones from APSB14-26 provide additional protection from the security flaws first patched in the October 2014 security updates mentioned in bulletin APSB14-22:
http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash-player/apsb14-22.html
A recent Majorgeeks.com article titled “Adobe patches Flash again”
http://www.majorgeeks.com/news/story/adobe_patches_flash_again.html
Whotta mess. Makes these Chromebooks I’m reviewing look better and better.
Thanks, ER!

Another Adobe Flash Player Feb. 2014 Security Update / Improving MSE performance
EP just sent this in:
Adobe has released another Flash Player security update on Feb. 20, 2014 here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/flash- player/apsb14-07.html and I saw this article on Tweaking.com 10 days ago on fixing the high CPU usage
and improving performance with Microsoft Security Essentials here:
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/fix_high_cpu_ usage_of_microsoft_security_ essentials,1.html
I had been disabling real-time protection in MSE on some old XP/Vista computers
because of the high processor usage but using the tips on that Tweaking.com article
made MSE use less CPU resources and scans are much faster and now enabling
real-time protection won’t slow down those old XP/Vista machines that much. -
