I would be interested in paying $50 for the first year.  From a cost/benefit perspective, $50 is a lot cheaper than buying a new computer or upgrading my computer to Win 10 and learning the Windows 10 world.  The extra time would allow me to analyze the options (Yes, I realize that I could have done that already but that is water under the bridge–already looked for a win 8.1 machine but have not found one yet) and not be in the rush of people to go to Win 10 when last Win 7 update occurs.

Woody,  I just checked and it appears that the article for KB4519976, Win 7 October rollup, has been updated since your initial 10-30-19 article on the conflict that appears with installing KB4519976.  The article for KB4519976 has an Important paragraph at the beginning of the article:

IMPORTANT Verify that you have installed the recommended updates listed in the How to get this update section before installing this update. For all updates starting with August 13, 2019, we strongly recommend that you install these updates to prevent any issues.

Any mention of how to fix the issue that was in the original article appears to be removed.  Apparently, if the recommended updates are installed, there is no issue per the latest version of the article. Interestingly the article has the original update date but has been revised since that date.  I did not check any of the other monthly rollup articles so I do not know if they have been updated or not.

    • the KB article states that KB4519976, Win 7 roll up  is one of the affected updates.  Does that mean that the Master Patch list will be updated to reflect this latest Microsoft conundrum?  I am just wondering if we should just skip this roll up and wait till the November roll up hits?  Any one else have an opinion?

    • When you are referring to “Hide the Update beginning with 2019-10 are you referring to the .NET rollup in shown in Post 1982322—Attachment: Important-Updates-Check1.jpg, since this update begins with 2019-10?  If this is the case, then did you recommend to hide KB4524102?  Thanks for your assistance.

Thank you for letting me know the correct process to follow.  I appreciate your help.  I’ll save my other question about how .NET updates are handled for the appropriate topic.  Thanks for your assistance.

PKCano:  If you search under forums for KB4524102 you will get to the topic that I was mentioning.  When I clicked on the comments on AskWoody under this topic, I got redirected to the How to view and protect your privacy of your MS account.  Here is the header for the topic:

I realize that we are at Defcon 1 but I have not found any information on this site on KB4524102 other than that shown under the above search.  It does not appear to be listed on the master patch list or are the Net updates handled separately from the master patch list?  So I am holding on patching until Woody gives the OK, but am curious about the process of listing patches for the month.  Thanks for your assistance.

Woody,  FYI,  When I click on comment on AskWoody Lounge under the topic of KB4524102–2019-10 update, it redirects me to the comments relating to How to protect privacy.  I thought my comments would be listed under KB5424102.  Perhaps I do not understand how the system works?  My question for KB4524102 is:  What is the status of this net update with respect to installing since it does not appear to be listed on the master patch list?  Thanks.

    • The KB4524752 was written in Upright font (No Italics) on the Important updates tab and checked. I hid it and summarize it is going to return in the future.

    • Just checked Windows Update on my win 7 pro SP1 machine.  KB4524752 showed as an Important update and checked.  I hid the KB.  I wonder if GWX Control Panel would work on this one like it did the last time?

reply to PKCano post #1964746 and Gone to Plaid post #1964783:  After checking my BIOS again, I came to the conclusion that the BIOS on my computer was released before ASUS went to the Secure BOOT configuration. The computer is not a factory computer but a computer I had custom built to meet my requirements for CAD/CAE and it was probably built before Secure Boot.  I installed KB3133977 and the computer rebooted without any immediate issues.  Now I am ready to be able to install the updates for Sept when given the OK from Woody.  Thank you very much for assisting me with this issue.  It is appreciated.

In Response to PK Cano post number 1952969 and Gone to Plaid post number 1953363:  Sorry for the late response but had another crisis (non computer) to deal with.  I managed to print the ASUS bios update directions and tried to follow them.  The directions are for UEFI BIOS.  When I was able to check the bios on my computer I found that they are EFI BIOS and the directions do not work.   My EFI bios does not have any listings for secure boot under all category headings including Advanced.  So my question is:  Since my computer is running EFI bios, do I need to install KB3133977 since it appears to be for UEFI bios? In other words, what do I do now?  Thanks very much for your assistance on this topic.

Thanks for your response.  Operating system:  Win 7 Pro.  I checked for KB3133977 and appear not have it installed.  I looked up KB3133977  and it includes Win 7 Pro in the applies to section.  It appears that this is for BitLocker.  I do not use, as far as I know, Bitlocker.  The KB article says that if you have an ASUS mainboard, there are issues with this update.  I have a ASUS P8P67 with an Intel Core I7 @2600 which is probably why I did not install KB3133977.  However I have installed KB4490628 successfully and KB4474419.  Now WU is showing KB4474419 again, which Susan Bradley pointed out in the Ask Woody Pluss newsletter this morning.  I plan to install KB4474419, Sept 10, 2019 version, before doing the rest of the updates.  I did research on KB4516655 and found that “There are no prerequisites to apply this update.” in the KB article.   Since KB4516655 replaces KB4490628 and I have successfully installed KB4490628, can I just install the KB4516655 and avoid the issues with ASUS motherboards and KB3133977?  Thanks very much.

In reference to KB4516655 for Win 7:  I checked my Windows Update (WU) to see if this was on the list.  It is currently not on WU but I have the other updates as mentioned by Susan Bradley on the Windows Secret newsletter today.  Based upon my reading of discussion in forums on this topic, I know that I need to install KB4516655, by itself, before doing the other Sept updates when given the all clear by Woody.  I believe that KB4474419 should be installed before this update. Is that correct?   Already have KB4490628-installed in March.  I am just trying to make sure that I am interpreting the responses on the forum correctly.  Thank you to all of you who make this site the best for Windows information.

I think that for some people the just the current month spreadsheet (August) would be good since they might be mobile.  I also think that a searchable entire listing of the updates, for example one year, would be good to be able to find information on an update that you might have missed.  This list could be built up over the year.  Thank you for your excellent work on updates and letting the rest of know what to avoid and what to install.
