ManagerJust a heads up – the recent replies widget has to be removed due to caching issues and performance issues it was causing. Evaluating long term options but for now, it has to go in order to keep the site in better shape.

ManagerJune 10, 2021 at 2:27 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 2: Defer Windows & Office updates to June 24 #2370524Resolution: This is expected due to security hardening changes relating to Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) for CVE-2021-31958. This issue is resolved if the local and remote devices both have KB5003637 installed.
Patch both sides, and there’s no issue.

ManagerJune 10, 2021 at 2:26 pm in reply to: MS-DEFCON 2: Defer Windows & Office updates to June 24 #2370523“Targeted” attacks are always a quandary for me. Typically targeted attacks means some attacker has gone after a specific business and the attacks are not wide spread. Do you remember the Exchange patch situation from a few months back? That was a type of an attack that attackers pivoted from going after narrow/specific businesses to EVERYONE in a few short days. I have yet to see that happening with these. Ultimately it comes down to what you feel comfortable with. Do you open PDFs on a regular basis? Do you randomly surf?
I don’t recommend delaying updates to browsers. I don’t recommend delaying updates to a/v. I still want to ensure there are no major side effects. I’m still in test mode, I don’t see massive widespread attacks to make me change my mind. I’ll let you know if I do.

ManagerWhat does the Bsod point to? Have you run it through this: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
Can you pull that back from overclocking and try to see if it’s stable ?
Any hardware that is what I deem “edge cases” aka overclocking/gaming rigs Microsoft doesn’t test well on. 🙁

ManagerNormally systems like to wait until there is an “all clear” before being offered up the feature update. So if you’ve just installed an update, give it a few days for the Microsoft overlords/telemetry to evaluate if it’s worthy again.

ManagerI’m using the “enterprise patching” view – none of these recent .net include new security updates.
