I’m reading so many problems with Feb. updates that I’m just going to start stop pause updates on all PCs till next month [again..did this last month] and hope Microsoft sorts it out by then. You’d think with all this AI they could get this right..unless it’s intentional to get ppl to buy new PCs.

Given the WIN11 problem, I’m gonna use stop start delay strategy to push updates into next month on my Win11 laptop.

Having briefly scanned responses, I’ve decided I’d rather juggle rattle snakes than deal with this so I’m going to resume updates, immediately stop them and pause for another month and repeat until Microsoft fixes this.

In order skip the problematic Oct. updates, I implemented the RESUME UPDATES – PAUSE TO MAX TIME strategy on 3 Win10 Pro & 1 Win11 pro and it worked without a hitch. I did restore points  beforehand. In update settings I resumed updates, the pause button then shows available, hit pause several times and that’s it: Updates delayed till 12/9 by which time I hope Microsoft has fixed the issues.

Will the ‘resume then pause method’ I described work?

Some AI’s are confirming it will.

I’m eager to dig through the posts in that 3 year old link to find a solution that may not work today because of changes.

      Thanks.

In windows 10 and 11, if there are problematic patches can the user prevent the installation of patches until the next period by selecting ‘Resume updates’ and then quickly pausing updates for up to 5 weeks?

Home user: August updates applied to 3 Win10Pro & 1 Win11Pro without apparent problems.

Thanks to all who provided feedback on their updating experiences.

Updated 3 Win10 Pro’s & 1 Win11 Pro. Only problem: On one Win10 for some crazy reason Avast firewall switched my network to untrusted blocking my software KVM, Input Director, and ability to update files from other PC’s. Last time I had an intranet connection problem, my son, an applications engineer, mentioned the firewall which led to me tracking down the problem and fixing it by trusting the network.

I have 3 refurb desktop Win 10 Pro PC’s and one Win11 Pro laptop. The Win 11 is by far and away the least likeable and most problematic and none of that has anything to do with it being a laptop. The original strategy for windows 10, as I recall was continuous gradual improvements with no major numbered updates. Kinda like the old VW bug. Really wish they’d stuck to that. Windows 11 is a pain.

I tried to use Edge and bing but every search ended in a blank page. Did a repair install on Edge. No help. Tried edge on a different PC. No help. Disabled adblockers. No help.

Can’t believe this is so dysfunctional.

FWIW I got on the waitlist by signing in on Firefox. Have no idea if this will pan out on Edge.

Oop ..Found the problem. I had an extension, total script blocker enabled. When I disabled it, seems to work

After I installed Cumulative KB5022287, tested ok & created restore pt, My Win 11 Pro started to download and install KB5019274. Described as optional preview ..I quickly paused updates until 3/5. Saw nothing on KB5019274 when I searched forums
      Will await advice. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/january-19-2023-kb5019274-os-build-22000-1516-preview-ace2511d-586e-41b0-b213-3a89d97565a4

KB4023057 was also installed which appears controversial on forums. Since the PC seems to work ok, I’ll leave alone. Have created restore point and image back up prior to update so I can reverse anything that doesn’t turn it into a smoking pile of parts.

    • in reply to: MS-DEFCON 3: Windows 10 22H2 may leave you blue #2513988

After researching the BSOD problems on Win10 PC’s, I followed advice on this thread to resume updates and then quickly pause to 2/6/23. Hoping Microsoft gets it right by then

Found this article discussing mitigations: https://windowsreport.com/kb5021233-windows-10-22h2-hidparse-blue-screen/ Downloaded their Rec’d Restore.exe but not installed

Are Windows 11 PC’s immune to the hidparse blue screen problem?  Thanks

This article implies Win11 are susceptible but not mention in this thread:
