I didn’t get it on this two-month-old install Win10 Pro 20H2, currently updated to 19042.746.

After updating two days ago to .746 with KB4598242 CU, i re-blocked updates with WinUpdate Blocker. Previews and drivers are blocked in GP.

Updated to Win10 20H2 19042.746 from .685, update took about 20 minutes and two auto-restarts for CU KB4598242. On a laptop and desktop. No problems (fingers crossed).
The Taskbar search box, keyboard, and Windows key work fine here.

MS says “You’re up to date.” They haven’t seen my honey-do list.

Driver Updates from MS is always blocked, i get drivers from the OEM.

Yes, on a GTX-1080 my Hardware-Accelerated GPU scheduling is “On”.

But with an old GTX-960M (laptop) the option is not offered. Maybe it is only for newer Nvidia GPUs. I use the GeForce experience to update with and take the whole package offered to both machines. I don’t notice a different feel with Windows either way but haven’t benchmarked.

      You’re flying higher with a Quadro  🙂

(too late to edit my last post):

The download of SysInternals v2.04 from Softpedia seems Ok, Web of Trust lists as safe, and i just scanned it with Superantispyware and Windows Defender which found no malware. It runs fine on my Win 10 v1809 to the current 20H2.

The link worked for me on FF 84. And that SysInternals updater from Ghacks is a nifty little helper.

(The last update listed is February 16, 2017 )

EDIT: Ah, the follow-on link at ghacks to http://www.wieldraaijer.nl/others.html is a 404. I’ll look around for another download site too.

Using the latest Firefox v84.0.2 and uBlock Origin with AskWoody whitelisted.

The blue opt in/out bar is at the top of my screen/window and remains there no matter where I scroll to. That’s Ok with me, I hit the X (exit) to dismiss it.

I opted Out successfully yesterday and the blue bar read “Thanks. We set a cookie in your browser, so Google Analytics will not track your future visits.”

Today i logged back in to AskWoody, the blue bar was  at the top of the screen again informing me the same thing…’Thanks, We set a cookie…GA will not track your future visits.’

Then clicked on the X (exit) on the bar to dismiss it and it disappeared.

I opted Out because I’m tired of Google everywhere, used to love it.

I’ve never seen Spambots on AW, thanks for keeping it clean admins and you unsung workers behind the scenes

Ditto. Win 10 2004 to 20H2 two weeks ago using Windows Update on a laptop and desktop, neither used for business, with no install problems or probs with other installed apps.

These two machines do not use Conexant or Synaptics drivers that caused problems on some computers.

Thanks Susan, i updated to Win10 20H2 latest cumultive update to 20H2 19042.685 on a desktop and laptop, both are non-business.

The site is accessing fine here on the northwest coast 10:55am PST via a local ISP on a slowish 20Mbps connection. I don’t notice it any faster or slower than before the site change, it is still fairly fast to open threads and posting replies is smooth. No access errors.

Nice job switching servers! Good access here.

    • in reply to: Is Firefox in danger? #2319822

I’ve used Firefox since switching from IE7, it has always worked well for a normal user like myself with an evolution of good security and privacy features.

I uninstalled Brave after trying it for a year. It was fast and proclaims privacy, but gathered and stored much more information from my surfing, and/or system, than Firefox does and that bugged me. Even when i hadn’t used Brave browser between cleanings, Ccleaner found double the cache and files than what FF collected. Legitimate or not, Brave had no reason to.

I’m staying with Firefox until/if it really breaks. Then I would switch to Vivaldi browser, VivaldiMail & Calendar. And V works well in Android from the UpToDown android app store, don’t need to use the google store.

Browser wars never end, even though the 800lb gorilla Chrome has most of the pie.

    • in reply to: Is this the end, the final death throw for Firefox? #2318792

Firefox 83.0 on my Windows 10 20H2 laptop and desktop is working fine here. It still searches with the address bar using DuckDuckGo or StartPage or Wikipedia engines. The Gmail addon in the FF toolbar works and takes me directly to the Gmail account like usual.

If FF becomes problematic, I’ll switch to Vivaldi as my main browser with VivaldiMail and VivaldiCalendar, owned and designed by private contributors led by former Opera cofounder Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner and contributor Tatsuki Tomita. Their HQ and offices are in Norway, Iceland and the US.
